Samoyed General Appearance:
The Samoyed is a large, fluffy white dog, which stands up to 51 inches from the withers and weighs between 37 and 72 pounds. Part of the spitz family of snow dogs, the Samoyed has a thick double coat which insulates them from harsh Arctic climates. Like other spitz breeds, the Samoyed has a tail which curls upwards. Samoyeds have either black or brown almond-shaped eyes. They’ve acquired the nickname “smiling Sammies” due to their friendly expression, which has an uncanny resemblance to a giant grin!
Samoyed Temperament:
The Samoyed has a lively and playful personality. They make poor guard dogs, as aggression in a Samoyed is nearly non-existent! Like all sled dogs, the Samoyed requires a lot of exercise and excels when they’re given tasks that involve pulling. Expect to find your Samoyed tugging hard on their leash! Samoyeds are a great choice for families with kids, and they have been known to try and herd children in their household! They remain playful well into old age, and have a tendency to bark.
Samoyed Fun Fact:
Samoyeds were used to herd reindeer!
