Irish Setter Appearance

Irish Setters are prized for their sumptuous red, flowing coat. They have long bodies, chiseled heads, and beautiful dark brown eyes. Their coats are feathered around their tails and ears and should be brushed regularly to prevent matting.

Irish Setter Temperament

Irish Setters get along well with adults and children, but might not do well with smaller animals because of their hunting traits. They may play rough, so this breed may not be the best choice for families with small children.

Irish Setters must be trained, and they need many activities to keep them from becoming bored. They need constant companionship and are extremely intelligent. If trained properly, they make excellent therapy dogs, offering a great deal of calmness and relaxation to those in need.

Irish Setter Fun Fact

Three American Presidents have owned an Irish Setter: Harry Truman, Richard Nixon, and Ronald Reagan.
