Curly-Coated Retriever General Appearance:

The Curly-Coated Retriever is one of the tallest breeds of retrievers, measuring between 23 to25 inches for females and 25 to 27 inches for males. True to its name, the Curly-Coated Retriever is easily recognized by its coat of short, tight curls. They have a well-balanced and muscular torso, with long legs. There are two standard colors for the Curly-Coat Retriever: solid black and solid liver. Curly Coated Retriever shedding isn’t excessive as they don’t have an undercoat, making grooming relatively low maintenance.

Curly-Coated Retriever Temperament:

Curlies were bred as gun dogs, and this is evident in their personalities. They are warm and affectionate with their owners, and slightly aloof with strangers. They excel as companions for bird hunting, and with rigorous exercise, they are calm inside the home. However, an under-exercised Curly Coated Retriever can be difficult to reel in.

Curly-Coated Retriever Fun Fact:

The Curly-Coated Retriever is one of the oldest retriever breeds, being recognized as early as 1860.
