Boston Terrier General Appearance

Boston Terriers are the result of a cross between an English Bulldog and a white English Terrier. Boston Terriers are on the smaller scale of dog breeds, weighing in at only about 10 to 25 pounds and measuring around 12 to 15 inches. Their smooth, short coats are easy to care for and come in a mix of either black, brindle, or white, often in a tuxedo pattern — which is why Bostons have the distinguished nickname of "the American Gentleman." But the Boston Terrier's flat, smushed face is this breed's most well-known feature.

Boston Terrier Temperament

Boston Terriers are very active, energetic, and lively dogs who will be more than happy to play fetch with you until the sun goes down. For the most part, Boston Terriers are friendlydogs that are easy to care for, making them a great option for first-time puppy parents. The biggest challenge that a Boston Terrier puppy parent will face is keeping them at a comfortable temperature. Bostons are very sensitive to both hot and cold weather, so if you live in an extreme climate, it's crucial to take extra precautions to make sure they don't overheat or get too cold. Even in warmer climates, Bostons will need a sweater during winter months to stay warm, and they should not be exposed to vigorous exercise in the summer since their shorter noses mean they can't pant to cool themselves off like other breeds.
