Beauceron Appearance

The Beauceron is a French dog that is famous for being one of the breeds used to create the more popular Doberman Pinscher. They are on the heavier side of medium-sized dogs, usually 24 to 27 inches tall, and weigh between 66 and 100 pounds. The short coat requires little grooming. Coloring is standard black and tan.

Beauceron Temperament

Beaucerons are even tempered and not typically playful. Their serious attitude and suspiciousness of strangers make them commonly used as guard dogs. Early socialization is important to prevent aggressiveness from developing.

They are highly energetic and need something more strenuous than just the occasional walk to keep them exercised. Anyone interested in owning a Beauceron should be warned that they develop more slowly mentally than other breeds. The breed can be highly trained, but it requires getting a Beauceron while they’re still a puppy and training them consistently for years.

Beauceron Fun Fact
