Stranger Strips Down To Save Elderly Dog From Raging River
Sara Melnicoff was enjoying a hike with her 13-year-old pup, Carli, when the unthinkable happened. Carli was suddenly swept away by the waters in Mill Creek. Melnicoff recalled the incident on Facebook,
"I saw her rush by, unable to do more than keep her head above water. I was running along the creek, calling her name ... "
Just as Melnicoff was preparing to take her shoes off and jump into the icy river, she saw a stranger appear.
“... This young man appeared out of nowhere and stripped down to his boxers. He plunged into the water, making his way along the slippery rocks, while the powerful currents of the water rushed all around him.”
The fast-acting stranger who saved Carli's life was Bobby L’Heureux. Melnicoff notes that L'Heureux carried Carli to safety just in time — Carli was "shaking like a leaf and didn't have much energy left."
Melnicoff vividly remembers the moment she was reuinted with Carli.
"I was very shaken and teary when he brought Carli to me. I asked him his name and gave him a huge hug. I asked him what his favorite charity was so I could donate in his name and he told me he runs a non-profit!"
Turns out that L'Heureux is no stranger to rescue missions. He runs the nonprofit organization Big Heart Big Hands which raises money for mountain rescue organizations and supports mountain safety education. Melnicoff shared the heroic story on Facebook and asked that anyone who wants to show support for Carli's brave hero to donate to Big Heart Big Hands.
