Yes, dogs can eat strawberries! These high-fiber fruits are a totally safe treat for your pup.

You have to be careful before you share some fruits and vegetables with your dog, like avocados and bananas, but strawberries only have one simple rule. Read on to find out what that rule is and how you should feed them to your doggo!

How Can Dogs Eat Strawberries?

A great way to incorporate this refreshing fruit into your fur baby’s diet is to make them a homemade pupsicle! Check out our dog-tested, dog-mom-approved recipe here:

If you’re sharing a fresh strawberry with your pooch, make sure to give the fruit a good rinse, and cut off the stem before sharing your berries. The leaves and stem can cause stomach problems, which is the last thing we want! Another option is to buy a bag of frozen strawberries and simply use them as rewards for good behavior.

Depending on the size of your pooch, you may want to cut the strawberry into bite-size pieces for easier digestion and to prevent any choking hazards. And before you give them a bite of this sweet treat, double-check with your vet, just to be safe.

Are Strawberries Bad For Dogs?

Strawberries are packed with nutrients, but like most fruits, they also contain sugar. Fresh strawberries have no ingredients that are toxic to dogs, but only give your dog a few at a time to limit their sugar intake.

Also, make sure to stay keep their snouts away from strawberry syrup or strawberry-flavored drinks, since these are full of artificial ingredients like high fructose corn syrup. That stuff isn’t good for humans and definitely isn’t good for pups!

Can Dogs Eat Strawberry Ice Cream?

Speaking of sugar, you know what you should never ever feed your pup? Strawberry ice cream! Many of you have asked if dogs can eat strawberry ice cream, and sadly, the answer is no.

Hate to be Debbie Downer, but you shouldn’t share ice cream of any flavor with your pup since dogs are generally lactose intolerant. Dogs and humans both need the enzyme lactase to properly digest lactose. Without enough lactase, your dog might experience tummy problems when they ingest lactose, and — well, you know what happens.

Puppies produce more than enough lactase while nursing, but once they start weaning off their mother’s milk, they produce less. As they mature, some dogs can handle a triple-scoop cone, and others have severe gastrointestinal problems from just a nibble of cheese.

Are Strawberries Good For Dogs?

Yes! In moderation, fresh strawberries have a ton of health benefits for your pooch. Strawberries are high in fiber and vitamin C, and they’re full of antioxidants. Over time, strawberries can help strengthen a dog’s immune system, fight the affects of aging, and even whiten your pup’s teeth!
